(MAP) Morocco is a ’’very important’’ partner of the European Union (EU), the vice-president of the European People’s Party (EPP) group in the European Parliament, Mr Andrey Kovatchev, said on Monday, September 20, 2021 in Rabat.
’’Morocco is a very important partner of the EU and we must deepen our relations after the free, democratic and transparent elections held in the Kingdom,’’ Kovatchev told the press after talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates Mr Nasser Bourita.
The Bulgarian MEP, who is also rapporteur for Morocco in the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs and International Trade Committees, said he was waiting for the formation of the new government in Morocco so that the two parties can continue to strengthen the "good" relations linking them in all areas, political, economic, security and trade.
"Morocco has many friends in the European Parliament," he added, stressing that his visit to Rabat is intended, among other things, to examine ways to further deepen Moroccan-European ties and to identify challenges.
Recently, Mr. Kovachev had welcomed the good conduct of the triple elections of September 8 in Morocco, highlighting, in a statement, the "transparency of the elections of September 8 and the quality of the organisation of this process by the Moroccan authorities, despite the context of the pandemic.
"These elections illustrate once again the resilience of the Kingdom in the face of the health crisis, as well as the maturity of its democratic experience," he said, insisting that "in an unstable region, it is important for the EU to continue to support Morocco as a reliable and stable partner in the region and in Africa.
